One of the very last times we hear Kratos try to be a reasonable, honorable man before his downfall caused by the questions this game had him ask. He tries to do the right thing yet there is no reward, only constant suffering. He's not a hero, he's a slave to the chains of olympus. The gods would only have kept asking more and more of him. Yet he tries.

fun fact: in the scene where Cal “styles” on Trilla, he’s actually using a forbidden lightsaber technique called Tràkata and it perfectly shows his character at this point. the technique involves turning on and off your lightsaber during combat, which makes your fighting style much harder to read. it’s such a dirty way of fighting that both the Jedi AND the Sith banned it. the Sith said it showed weakness, and the Jedi considered it unsportsmanlike. it shows perfectly how Order 66 happening while Cal was still a padawan (and the gap between then and the start of the game) disrupted his training so much that he never truly embraced the Jedi’s code of honor. it’s a great example of his characterization and is a big factor on why he’s the best depiction of a grey Jedi.

I've been playing all these games in reverse order starting with valhalla, and holy shit is the writing and story so much better in these older titles.

If you're looking to see more Jason leading up to this game, I highly recommend reading the Batman: Arkham Knight Genesis run. I also recommend Batman Arkham Knight Annual #1. We get to see more inside Jason's head right up to this game.

the best detail imo is that when you become deviant, you no longer have to abide by the walls, but your character goes through the warning/objective then turns around because of their better judgment of just leaving.

I will never understand those that complain at immersive story telling. So many now seem to pitch that they have "build the biggest world yet", but its devoid of interest, and you find yourself fighting, repeatedly, boringly through it looking for the next treat that makes the battle have meaning. And its seldom coming. Horizon and its follow ups (as a later player), are a great exception to the rule, as someone who doesent really like games that are just endless fight sequences. If feels more worth.

markus may have been a kind of slave, but i think carl was my favorite human character because he was always nice to markus instead of being like “i own you do what i say with no arguments.”

I disagree on the Outsider, I've always found him rather lame. Other than that, I agree with the rest. :-) I recommend everyone to try a no-kills (or under-four-kills) Low Chaos playthrough at least once. Or even a Clean Hands Low Chaos playthrough. Very rewarding.

I always tried to go for the higher honor ending, mostly because the Man With No Name films were my favorite westerns back in the day (and still are). Arthur's won't stoop to killing when he doesn't need to, but he isn't afraid to kick some ass when he does. At least, that's how I tried to model him

What's crazy is how you mention all the choices in the game mattering because the journey matters more than the destination, which ties into what Max says during the Double Exposure gameplay trailer. Moses: "Didn't take you as a 'it's the journey, not the destination' type." Max: "I mean, I guess I'm not. It's more like, sometimes you reach the destination... alone, and that's okay." I believe this is a direct callback to the sacrifice of Chloe (which I believe to be the cannon ending), as Max, who, despite desperately trying to balance saving Chloe's life and saving Arcadia Bay, eventually realized she couldn't have both. She had to sacrifice her best friend to save all those around her, even those who were mean to her or others. Sure, she still got justice for Rachel and Chloe and Kate (and others), but she arrived there alone. And when you think about how many times she had to alter the fabric of reality in order to keep Chloe alive, it shows that Max understands that she was not meant to meddle with Chloe's fate, but for her deaths to act as a sacrifice to prevent the deaths of others. This is a sad realization that Max and the player come to realize throughout the game, which even Chloe realizes in the end. Max suffered through multiple timelines of abuse, both from Jefferson's physical/mental abuse onto her, but also from the pain of knowing Chloe was dead, and the pain she felt from traversing time the way she did. She went through multiple realities for Chloe, but that journey allowed her to mature and realize that, yes, she was given this power to change something, but that wasn't Chloe's fate; it was the fate of those around her and Chloe. And this is the destination she reached alone. Alone, she finally got justice for all the characters who had suffered in one way or another. Despite Max not being friends with all of them, she, alongside Chloe, realized that, especially in this case, "the needs of the many outweigh the need of the few, or the one." The one being Max (or Chloe, depending on how you look at it.) Max 'needed' to save her friend. But in the end, she realized that what she was truly given her power for was not to get what she needed, but what others needed. What Kate needed. What Victoria needed. Hell, even what Arcadia Bay needed through the investigation of the Prescott's. But yeah, I just wanted to give my thoughts on something I picked up on. I watched the gameplay reveal last night and, when watching this video, I made a connection between the comment you made about the choices still mattering despite the outcome and Max's own view of the situation, and I wanted to share it to all those who might see it. I just love how fleshed out and beautiful the stories of LIS 1/BTS were, as I literally finished the games for the first time also last night. These games really show that, even if you could go back and change things, maybe you shouldn't, as making one change would lead you to make another to fix things, leading you down a rabbit hole of that. Sometimes, it's better to let things happen and then stop it from happening again, as opposed to somewhat selfishly trying to change fate. Also, the people who say all the choices don't matter are wrong, as said choices allowed Max's realization to occur, and allowed for her to figure out how to stop Jefferson and Nathan, with a side bonus of putting the Prescott's as a whole on the hot seat. Max grows as a person because of her choices, and, although bittersweet, realizes she can't prioritize her need to have Chloe in her life over the needs of others to be kept safe and out of the reach of Jefferson and Nathan/the Prescott's. Also, that's why I believe the other ending to not be canon, as it just shows Max and Chloe being selfish and not caring for others, which is the opposite of what the game tries to portray, which can be seen through Kate's story (especially after her death), Chloe's character arc, as well as Max's character arc. Chloe and Max learn to not be selfish and to what's right for others.

When Kratos blows gjallarhorn I weep everytime this is truly one of the greatest games ever…

There’s a charm to it I really haven’t found with any other franchise & I’m grateful for all the memories I have with it throughout all these years. unfortlenly i hadnt have the oppotuinty to play the game and dlc, but what i watched on yt, honetly i needed it. I saw a lot of people say (also a creater of GOW) say this is not a true Kratos.... fair enougth but for me personly, because i saw my self a lot of ways in Kartos i needed to see his redeption and his self acceptance in a way his ending speech was something i wished i heard from myself or someone that i respect and is close to me to say that. So i guess in my eyes Kratos deserved a second chance. (sorry for bad english, it arent my first language)
